Had a lovely stay here. The host was very accommodating and gave us several good options on things we could do in the surrounding area. The breakfast was also very good.

Had a wonderfully peaceful weekend here just enjoying the self contained cottage and pottering around the Sussex countryside. The cottage was superbly comfortable with everything you possibly need. Rowena the host was so helpful in getting us settled and recommending decent places to eat. Would happily stay here again.

We have stayed here for some years now when we come to Glyndebourne Opera.Wartling Place is soexceptionally welcoming and well run by the same family for some decades, with beautifully furnished, large & individual en suite bedrooms, delicious food in a really lovely dining room, really well trained & friendly young staff led by the totally hands-on owners and set in beautifully maintained large gardens with bowling green standard lawns, that we now look forward to staying here more than attending Glyndebourne.

The grounds are absolutely beautiful. The house - well stated and exquisitely comfortable. Rowena is a lovely keeper and breakfast was wonderful. The surrounding area is breathtaking with pastures and fields full of sheep and wildflowers. If there was one thing against it is its proximity to the road and road noise, which is rather heavily traveled during the day. Thankfully, hat noise falls away in the evening leaving an intimately quiet peaceful space. Highly recommend if you are looking for the quintessential English country holiday.

A truly wonderful place, exactly what you would expect to experience in an English country house. Although located close to the village road, the place is extremely quiet and has a gorgeous garden overlooking the surrounding fields. The house is very stylish and exquisitely decorated with period furnishings and lovely prints on the walls. Our superior room (with a large bathroom and a view onto the garden and the small car park) was very comfortable and finely decorated as well with period furniture pieces and artefacts. The bed was large and very comfortable. Both house and room were extremely clean. The breakfast is good, however mostly "English" and for "egg-lovers". It is served in a large downstairs room looking out onto flowers and butterflies; you have to share the table with other guests. Rowena, the charming owner of the place, makes every effort to make guests happy and comfortable. Certainly one of the finest British places where we have been staying in recent years.

We were greeted upon arrival by Rowena, who made us most welcome into a home environment and with a beautiful garden to walk around in. The bedroom was spacious andelegantly furnished with two sash windows to provide a bright and airy ambience with views to the adjacent churchyard. The king size bed was very comfortable and the quiet location of the house ensured a deep and restful sleep. The room contained adequate storage space in a wardrobe and two drawer chests either side of the bed.The en-suite bathroom was very spacious offering a deep bath with overhead shower, a vanity unit and wc. Breakfast was served in a large elegantly furnished dining room on a long table shared with other guests which stimulated conversation and shared local knowledge. The maitre d’hotel was very attentive and contributed to the breakfast conversation with local knowledge. There was a wide choice of both continental and English breakfast choices which were all of a high standard. A very useful innovation was that guests were allocated staggered dining times so that no one waited to be served which resulted in a smooth service. A perfect destination for a spoiled and relaxing stay.

Ignoring the huge price increase in UK accommodation due to the pandemic, our self catering cottage was well equipped, modern, clean and had everything we needed. The boiler looked like it could do with updating though.Bedrooms were of a good size, lounge had a strange layout with oversized sofas. Basic TV with a few channels. Bathroom was near unusable for me at 6'2" and very difficult to help our child get ready for bed in. I can't imagine how four people would manage in the accommodation. Overall we felt it was a bit style over substance. Better use of the space could have been achieved with more thought. The grounds were beautiful however with manicured lawns and fruit trees. Views of the observatory, valley etc.The welcome we received wasn't the warmest. Our host was more concerned with telling us what we can't do and what was broken at the property. This was after questioning whether we were capable of looking after our child who we left sleeping in the car on arrival. I expect a host to give a warm welcome and ask how our journey was etc. The welcome we received was patronising, un-enthused and a little snooty. Wouldn't return I'm afraid.

Hello againThank you for taking the time to leave a review of our self catering accommodation, our prices have not changed for the last two years, and we haven\\\'t sought to take any advantage of the recent pandemic, as many have.I am sorry you thought you did not receive a warm enough welcome, and mortified that you think, I implied or questioned your ability to care for your child?!As I showed you around I did indeed point out the wardrobe catch had been newly broken, and did ask that standing water not be left on the oiled kitchen worktops, the later being a polite request. We do actually regularly have friends and families booking the cottage, Indeed a family following you, with two 9 year old boys and one parent in equal, possibly greater height, have already rebooked for the October half term.I\\\'m glad you thought it well equipped, modern, clean and well equipped yes, the cottage is compact and when we updated is last year we thought ...we had it made a good and comfortable spacehey ho.Patronising, un-enthused and snooty.. well sadly, that\\\'s a firstfor me I must admit :(Wishing all ofyou all bestRowena

I selected Wartling Place Country House for a short break because it had excellent ratings on Tripadvisor and I'm pleased to say that these ratings were accurate. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our five night stay in this fine mansion surrounded by beautiful gardens. We were given the four-poster room, which was very quiet and dark at night, so sleep quality was excellent. The room itself was huge and so was the bathroom, all of which was a bonus. The owner---Rowena---is a very likeable lady and it was fun talking to her at breakfast, while planning the day, as she is very knowledgeable on local matters. Breakfast itself was totally adequate and a rare pleasure for me as I treated myself to smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.Would we go back ?Yes, most definitely if we wanted to stay in that part of Sussex again.

Wartling Place is an absolute gem. You will not be disappointed and I would highly recommended! We stayed in the cottage which was perfect for a young family ( 2 adults, a 7 and 9 year old). The cottage was decorated to a high standard, very comfortable beds and your children will not be bored with a huge garden to run around.

We really enjoyed our stay in Wartling Place. Rowena was really hospitable, friendly and helpful, the room was beautiful, spacious and comfortable with a lovely view of the garden. Breakfasts were excellent, with a lot of variety. Everything was done very safely as regards Covid - a lot of effort was put into making it super safe while having a really relaxing time. We will return! Highly recommended.

Lovely home, fantastic breakfast and hospitality. Peaceful and relaxing. The hosts will go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. We found the bed a little too hard, and since the closest pub is on lockdown you need to drive to the nearest restaurant, which is a hard thing at night in small country roads. But overall definitely a place worth a stay.

We went for a family get together and occupied 3 of the 4 rooms in the main house, all of which were tastefully decorated and comfortable. The breakfasts were excellent, especially the home grown tomatoes, and our hostess Rowena was very welcoming making sure we had everything we wanted and booking restaurants for us. We also enjoyed sitting out in the gardens in the evenings. We would definitely recommend Wartling Place and are likely to return.

We stayed in the cottage at Wartling Place Country House to have a 'change of wallpaper' and chill for my birthday. The cottage was perfect for our needs - well furnished, a private patio area and gorgeous views perfect for watching the sunset. The kitchen had all we needed with good appliances and utensils to cook meals for four. The beds are comfy with lovely cotton sheets (which helped with the extreme heat we experienced!).Rowena and her husband were friendly and very accomodating hosts.

As a last minute booking we were a little wary ofbooking a B&B but ... what a find! This is a truly fabulous country house, with all the English trimmings. The room was superb! ... spacious and tastefully decorated with a huge four poster bed. The window looked out over the well kept grounds, which we had a good walk around. The host Rowena was so attentive and accommodating, and I was impressed by the phone call I received as soon as I had booked to ask if I would like a reservation made for dinner at the local pub opposite, a really nice touch! We did end up having dinner at the Lamb Inn, the food and service were great and would recommend a visit there too ...Last but not least the breakfast was superb, plenty of options and even sharing the table with other guests was a delight ... 5 stars from us and a definite return!

We had a spacious, nicely decorated and very clean bedroom and en suite bathroom in this beautiful country house.Rowena was a charming hostess and the breakfast was excellent. The only annoying thing was background noise from a television or loud conversation in a neighbouring room or the apartment below, which stopped me getting off to sleep as soon as I wanted after running the Brighton Marathon earlier in the day.

Hi I am sorry you had difficulty with the water, it can happen when the house is full and everybody decides to take a shower at the same time.May I ask please did you leave your towels in the bath, to be replaced as the girls are instructed to do this?

We can find no fault with either the accommodations or the warm service from Rowena and her staff. Our twin room overlooking the church was large and comfortably furnished. Breakfast was especially nice in the lovely dining room with its large sunny windows; the meals were quite delicious, with fresh fruit, and an exceptional selection. The location of the hotel was very convenient to Battle, Herstmonciex, Bateman's, Charleston, and other places. We would certainly return!

A beautiful house with fantastic garden and very comfortable rooms. However not the best choice for young kids. The room and garden were fine for Kate do but breakfast a little too formal for them and us, and service too slow on the morning we were there.

For our short break in East Sussex we looked for somewhere with character and we found it in Wartling Place. This former rectory with generous grounds, mature trees and shrubs proved to be restful and relaxing. Accomodation was spacious and comfortable with a period ambience plus all the necessary modern conveniences. The breakfast menu included a full English as well as fresh fruit, salmon, kippers, omelettes etc. Our host, Rowena gave us a warm reception and was always helpful. During our stay there were guests from Belgium and Thailand so news of Wartling Place's good reputation has been spread far and wide. A great escape to the country.

We stayed in the cottage which is detached but beside the main building. Its lovely location and has a great pub opposite. The cottage is comfortable and clean with a pleasant court yard. The kitchen has everything you need. The breakfast we had was exceptional and the lady there has a great style. My only thought is that it is expensive at £200 per night and that does not include breakfast. Another party ( we were on a wedding) stayed at a 5 bedroom house, all ensuite, with 3 receptions for £300 per night so after we saw that it did conclude that this was an expensive option

This was my second visit and we stayed in the adjacent cottage with my elderly mother as she cannot manage stairs in the main house . The cottage is fantastically equipped and we were very comfortable in there altjough we chose to have our breakfasts in the main house . Rowena and her husband run this beautiful Sussex property and grounds almost single handedly and together create and idyllic retreat. Breakfasts were very tasty and where possible, using local produce .nothing was too much trouble and many helpful tips about what to do and where to eat in the area.We enjoyed the more personal touches and experiences in this upmarket B and B than in a similarly graded hotel.Highly recommended - go and try it yourself

We have a preference for the shower cubicles. Delicious breakfast. We discovered beautiful castles and gardens grace to Rowena's good recommendations. Thank you again for your hospitality!François and Elisabeth MAYER

We had a very pleasant stay and Rowena keeps things very relaxed. On a sunny day the gardens are beautiful and nice to sit and have a picnic in. Sadly we did not see the sun much, but it meant we travelled to the local sites of interest of which there are many. Recommend the breakfast in the morning and dinner in the pub opposite which Rowena will book for you. We would look to return and hopefully enjoy the gardens in the sun.

We enjoyed a lovely break at Wartling Place, in May, on a trip to Eastbourne. The house is in a lovely quiet area, furnished with antiques and with many nice touches ( like the fridge, in the hall, for wine, beers etc);good quality bathroom products; towelling robe etc.Lovely breakfasts, with homemade preserves, taken in the dining room overlooking the garden. Excellent pub, opposite hotel, serving great food. Rowena very friendly and helpful. Would definitely return, again, for a relaxing break. Thank you.

Or stay home for the day and enjoy the wonderful expansive gardens.Save yourself the bother of breakfast chores and do what we did.Indulge in breakfasts at the house prepared and cooked for you.It is served in a beautiful light specious room full of antiques. The house, cottage and grounds are charming. Wartling Place Country House Hotel is the perfect place for a country house style weekend break, which is exactly what my wife and I were after. The rambling house, set in lovely grounds, is full of charm, character and warmth (especially welcome in chilly November!). The owners are extremely charming, friendly and hospitable. The breakfast, which we ate in a gorgeous light filled room overlooking the garden, was plentiful and delicious.Just across the road is The Lamb, serving hand pulled local ales and delicious, top quality food in an authentically rustic setting. All in all, a great place to stay.

Wartling Place was an idyllic place to stayto recharge the batteries. A peaceful quiet location with wonderful views of the village church from our room, and a good pub across the road. There was a really good choice of food for a very tasty breakfast, which took us through to early afternoon. Our room had a wonderfully comfy super king size bed with everything provided. The shared landing area was decorated with wonderful oriental furniture and a handy fridge filled with water and other drinks if needed. The breakfast room was a delight too. I was lucky to happen upon Wartling Place 8 or so years ago and make a point to stay here whenever I am working in the area.Every time Rowena and Barry have exceeded all hopes and expectations and following my daughter's wedding last year I introduced my husband to the experience. The rooms are all large and well equipped and tastefully furnished to a high spec with quality bedding and a seating area; two of the bedrooms actually have fourposter beds with panoramic views of the delightful garden and countryside beyond.Rowena has a great eye for detail managing a very tight ship whilst remaining apparently very laid back and effortlessly in control and incredibly welcoming. The breakfasts are to die for, a great choice, cooked to perfection. There is a pub/restaurant just across the road so you can safely imbibe then stroll home, however, Rowena and Barry regularly check out local eateries so can confidently advise if you wish to go further afield. My most recent stay was in the 2 bedroomed cottage in the grounds, again beautifully furnished to a very high standard, you won't need to bring any of the accoutrements that I would usually pitch up to a self catering holiday with, like washing up liquid, tea towels, salt & pepper as Rowena's already thought of it!!

I booked Wartling Place as part of a birthday present for husband. It was everything I'd hoped for and more. The room was lovely, although with the window open, the road, although not busy, could be a bit noisy. The house had a lovely, welcoming feel. Rowena was the perfect hostess, even contacting a local pub to book an evening meal for us. Breakfast was plentiful, freshly cooked and set us up for the day. The one thing missing from the room, in my opinion, was hot chocolate on the tea tray, but this is a minor thing in an otherwise perfect weekend. We hope to pay a return visit in the not too distant future.

Stayed for three nights in the cottage next door to the main house. it was beautifully presented and maintained and equipped with everything required.I elected to stay in the cottage as my mother is disabled and cannot manage stairs.Rowena, the owner could not have been more helpful as was a mine of information about the local area, where to eat and where access was easy for my mother. As for the breakfasts :- only one word .....DELICIOUS. The grounds of Wartling place were beautiful and superbly maintained by rowena's husband. The cottage would easily accommodate four and is ideal for families as well as a small group of adults. The position of Wartling place was ideal within easy reach of much of the areas attractions.

Rowena is a unobtrusive but welcoming hostess with an excellent knowledge of the locality. The room was beautiful and clean with, in our case a lovely outlook of the church. We will definitely return in the Spring or Summer to get the full benefit of the walking and surrounding countryside. The breakfast is delicious with plenty of choice and fresh ingredients, including on our last morning, freshly baked croissants from the local Italian baker.Thoroughly recommend - although reluctantly as we don't want there to be no room next time we want to stay!!

We have just spent a brilliant weekend here with some friends for our 30th wedding anniversary.Rowena kindly booked restaurants for us on both evenings, great food. The local pub really friendly, look forward to a revisit when the chef has arrived.Fantastic grounds, views and the bedrooms and breakfast were first class, thank you once again

I happened upon this place after trying to book a few other B&Bs in Sussex first. I'm delighted to say that all the others were fully booked as it meant my future wife and I got to enjoy 2 nights of Rowena's impecable hospitality. B&B doesn't really do it justice, whilst small hotel is too impersonal. Imagine you have a long lost but delightful relation to stay with and you might be close to picturing the warmth of the reception you're likely to receive. Pedants might find minor niggles to mention (no the shower isn't the most powerful and yes the occasional passing car can be heard) but nothing detracts from the overall joy of being able to call Wartling Place 'home' for a couple of nights. Certainly not the cheapest but definitely the best value accomodation I've enjoyed in a while... 100% recommended.

We needed an overnight stay in the area, and found Wartling House had many favourable reviews already on the internet. We weren't disappointed, it was a beautiful country house in a tiny village with lovely pub opposite. The room was perfect and the breakfast was excellent, as were the facilities. We will be back!

We have now stayed at Wartling Place on three occasions and have found the accommodation, facilities and breakfast to be excellent. Wartling Place enjoys a secluded location in its own attractive grounds, and we have always received a warm, helpful welcome. We would recommend Wartling Place to those seeking a comfortable stay in the East Sussex countryside.

A beautiful home, with lovely finishing touches. Breakfast was a decadent affair with the finest produce! Rowena is very warm and friendly and keen to offer local advice. A glorious part of the world with as much or as little as you decide to do.

My husband, two teenage daughters and I greatly enjoyed our stay in the Wartling Place Cottage September 5-7th, 2011.Rowena was extremely helpful in the numerous emails we had in advance regarding all details of our stay, including many that were not directly related to our stay with her, such as dinner reservations and taxi bookings. She went above and beyond to make our stay in East Sussex comfortable and enjoyable. The cottage itself was lovely. Two very comfortable bedrooms, a well appointed kitchen, a good sized bathroom (by English standards), and a very cozy living room to relax and watch movies when it was too rainy and windy to explore the area.Breakfasts in the inn were fantastic.Loads of options to choose from on the menu, each one cooked to perfection. If we ever have the privilege of visiting this area again, we will certainly stay at Wartling Place!

I had a very enjoyable one-night stay here in the beautifully pleaceful surrounding. The bedroom was large, beautifully decorated, clean and airy and the bed wonderfully comfortable, with good pillows - a rarity in hotels! The hosts were very welcoming and helpful. I would definitely stay here again.

For many years we have always stayed at Wartling Place when visiting family in Eastbourned. It is such a tranquil house, tastefully and elegantly decorated, with every amenity, breakfasts to die for, and Rowena, the unflappable, welcoming host.

Recently stayed for two nights 15-16.07.11 for a family wedding.Rowena could not be any more helpful and a lovely hostess. House full of character.attential to detail evident. Room very acceptable although a touch on the cosy side. DVDs available and bottled water in room. Delightful gardens. Reservation made at the local pub for evening meal, which was good.Breakfast excellent and served in the dining room, which was full of character.Guests sit at one very large table providing a family atmosphere. However not all guests may wish to share a breakfast table with strangers. Was not a problem for us. Would highly reccommend. Many thanks Rowena.

We had a lovely second stay at Wartling Place, and found everything as immaculate as ever with attentive and thoughtful service. The rooms are lovely and there every need is catered for at the delicious breakfast served around one large table in a delightful window bay overlooking the garden.

Wartling Place is a lovely house set in a beautiful location. We were given a warm welcome by the owner, Rowena. Our room was very comfortable. It was an ideal base for our visit to sussex and I anticipate staying there again when we are next in the area.
